Invitation

A Message from the ACTA President

On behalf of the Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA), I would like to thank our conference delegates from previous years for their continuing support and participation and to welcome new delegates to our second biennial international TESOL conference. Our 2010 conference is being hosted by the Queensland Association for TESOL (QATESOL) at the Holiday Inn in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, one of Australia’s premier tourist destinations.

The conference program includes an outstanding line-up of plenary, featured and invited speakers, workshop presentations and colloquia, and will address a wide range of pertinent and topical issues in ESL and EFL education. Along with the fresh ideas and insights provided in these conference sessions, you will have an opportunity to meet up with other educators and researchers from Australia and around the world.

I hope to see you in Surfers this July!

With best wishes,
Robert Jackson
ACTA President

Conference Theme

The focus of this conference is the need for TESOL practitioners to rethink and reconfigure the way we view and practice our profession in light of rapid global change and new challenges; to think outside the square and to share ideas and practices that are contributing to such thinking.

There will be 4 strands at the conference:

• Pedagogy (including classroom practice, teacher education)
• Assessment and Evaluation
• Learners and Learning (including Second Language Acquisition, identity, literacy
  development, culture etc)
• Curriculum & Policy.

Participants will be from early childhood, primary, secondary, ELICOS, TEFL, adult migrant and tertiary sectors, including teachers/scholars who work with indigenous language learners at all levels.

The keynote speakers are international leaders in the field, and conference participants will comprise TESOL educators and researchers from around the globe.

Papers are welcomed from teachers and scholars within the TESOL field as well as from other disciplines that have direct impact on the teaching & learning of English as a second language or dialect (e.g mainstream literacy, numeracy, culture studies, psychology, etc).
